Virgin of Immaculate Conception is a critique of American society's worship and mistreatment of the female body. Debates on women's rights to birth control, abortion, and their own sexuality have circled systems of power predominantly controlled by heterosexual, cis-gendered men. However, femme bodies are also over-sexualized, commodified, and idolized. Systems of power validate heteronormativity, patriarchy, and prevent women from having rights to sexual freedom, birth control, and abortion. Virgin of Immaculate Conception points out the dichotomy of political America's fascination with exploiting and worshipping female bodies.   .
